Blue Sapphire is a naturally occurring gemstone which belongs to the corundum family. It has slight traces of cobalt and some other metals, leading to its beautiful blue hue. Blue Sapphire is found usually in the igneous rocks and alluvial deposits. The name “sapphire” can also apply to any corundum that’s not red and doesn’t qualify as ruby, another corundum variety.
